Pride-2012 : Take action! United for equality! Program of the 11th LGBT Pride Festival “Rainbow over the Dniester”
This year, the 11th festival “Rainbow over the Dniester” takes place in Chisinau between 10 and 13 May under the motto “Take action! United for equality! ” The organizers seek achievement of the following: equal rights for homosexual and transgender people, their integration in the society so they, like other social groups, were protected by the state. Those who follow the activity of the GENDERDOC-M Information Centre understand that first of all we speak about adoption of the Law on Preventing and Combating Discrimination and implementation of the Law on Freedom of Assembly. The former has not been adopted yet due to the pressure by Christian extremist groups and other sorts of homophobes, and the latter is inactive when it comes to LGBT community to exercise their rights. What is more, courts and law-enforcement bodies find this illegality somewhat natural.
Pride-2011 : Tenth Rainbow over the Dniester Shone Bright
Between 5-7 May, traditional ‘Rainbow over the Dniester’ Pride Festival took place in Chisinau. This year’s tenth anniversary event was joyful (10 years is a term for sizing up and setting new goals) and somewhat sad at the same time. The reason to be sad was government’s withdrawal of the draft law on non-discrimination after a group of civic organisations who call themselves religious and keepers of traditional family values. They promised to lock out parliament’s activity. And authorities drew back in fear of bigots.
Pride-2011 : Pride House. Communicate, Get Informed, Enjoy
For the last day of the “Rainbow over the Dniester 2011” festival, organisers prepared rather a light programme for their guests – two seminars and a workshop within the Pride House. Those who wanted to take part in them could choose only one event because all they were held simultaneously.
Pride-2011 : Moldova will have comprehensive anti-discrimination law, assert international experts
On the 6th of May, the “Rainbow over the Dniester” organisers planned a grand event – to hold the international conference on LGBT rights in today’s Moldova and effective measures of combating discrimination. The specially invited foreign guests and local human rights defenders have concluded that the anti-discrimination law will certainly appear. For the moment, it’s important that its authors insert the maximum positive practices in the draft.
Pride-2011 : Flowers and Rainbow Balloons, Commemorating the Past
Laying flowers to the Monument of Repression Victims is a tradition the GENDERDOC-M Information Centre has followed for the decade. This year’s anniversary “Rainbow over the Dniester” festival didn’t become an exception, either. In the morning on 5 May, the LGBT activists and volunteers, as well as guests from different countries, including high European officials, politicians and diplomats, paid homage to the memory of all gays and lesbians tortured and killed during the history.
Pride-2011 : The 10th Anniversary Pride Festival – to stop and look back in order to advance
Already tomorrow guests from various countries will gather to celebrate the 10th Anniversary “Rainbow over the Dniester” Festival organised for the LGBT community by the GENDERDOC-M Information Centre. Contrary to love parades held on downtown streets and squares in a number of European capitals, Moldovan gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals will unite in culture and entertainment venues for informational events. Representatives of the non-governmental organisation revealed their plans for 5-7 May at the press conference held on the 3rd of May.
Pride-2010 : Day Three, or Why the Rainbow over the Dniester is an International Festival
The solemn closing of the Rainbow over the Dniester festival took place at the Equator Night Club. The last night is always most memorable, so the organizers prepared a lot of surprises. The main one was the results of the Miss Flawless Queen-2010 International Festival.
Pride-2010 : How Transsexuals Differ from Transvestites, and What the Role of State in Their Life Is
Saturday, 1 May, was fully dedicated to the issues of transgender people. This large category includes a great number of subcategories, so festival participants were proposed to learn about the most common phrases in order to make the discussion easier.
Pride-2010 : Day Two: be educated, sensitive, healthy and just be yourself
This was the motto of all activities organized during the second day of the pride. A photo exhibition from three countries, an art club, and a debate club on a hot issue, a film presentation, poems and music were planned for Friday.
